Gardens that
belong to the island.

Landscape architecture and garden design shaped by Madeira’s terrain, wind and flora — for private gardens, hotels and commercial grounds.

01 — Practice

A small practice working between landscape architecture, spatial design and botanical knowledge.

The work starts with the site: how it slopes, where the wind comes from, how much salt and sun it receives, what is already growing there. Those facts decide the structure of a garden long before anything is drawn.

From there the design moves between levels, walls, paths and planting — treated as one system rather than separate layers. The result should feel inevitable, as though the garden had always been part of the place.

04 — Approach

“Design with the site, not against it. The best gardens look like they were never installed.”

Madeira gives a designer an unusual range: cloud forest, dry volcanic coast, subtropical valley, salt wind. Each asks for a different structure and a different palette. The constant is restraint — fewer materials, plants chosen for the place, and details that age well.

05 — About

Danylo Riabchenko

Landscape architect and botanical designer based in Madeira, working on private gardens, hospitality grounds and planting-led projects across the island.

The practice combines spatial design with hands-on botanical work: site reading, planting strategy, plant sourcing and coordination on site. Rare and unusual species are part of the vocabulary, chosen for climate and exposure rather than novelty.
